Why are some of the products you sell available at grocery and drug stores?
These products have been diverted through dishonest people that are re-selling them to major retail chains. PSC would like to make you aware that these unauthorized retailers are not receiving these products from PSC or the manufacturer. Also be aware that when sold in these stores they are not guaranteed by the manufacturer and may be either counterfeit or defective.

Can you tell me more about diversion?
Diversion occurs when greedy unethical people who have licensed access to professional products sell to other greedy unethical people who take advantage of the powerful relationship between a salon client and their hairdresser.

How do unauthorized retail stores obtain these professional products?
Various and all levels of professionals have been caught at “the game”. Basically anyone from distribution to licensed hairstylists sell these products “under the table” for a profit. Because these products then are sold to a third party, by the time they get to the consumer they are almost always more expensive than suggested retail price. Large retailers understand that providing “one stop” shopping for their customers enhances profits. If they could get these products through the proper channels they would undoubtedly have much more shelf space devoted to these products. Diversion has become an industry wide problem and the more popular products have more consumer recognition, therefore, they are more widely diverted… simple economics!

How does the Beauty Professional fight diversion?
There are several things we can and should do:

1) Be sure your client leaves the salon with everything they need to replicate the fabulous hairstyle you have just created.

2) Be knowledgeable; know the professional products you offer so you can recommend them properly. Also if there are grocery or department stores in your area, know which products they carry and the prices. Often these places are charging far more than suggested retail.

3) Thank your salon clients for buying their professional products from you. Let them know it matters to your salon.

4) Report any collectors who contact you to buy products for them. Call PSC or the manufacturer.

5) Be sure your salon offers a great selection of beautifully displayed and well-stocked products. People love to shop!

6) Avoid patronizing businesses that sell these products, and let them know that as fellow business people you do not appreciate their unethical retailing of professional salon products.

7) Choose products and distributors for your salon who support you with great service and education to grow your business.

8) Choose to fight! Choose to compete! Only hairdressers know the right products and the right way to use them. There are no hairdressers at the grocery store.
