Our Company-wide Commitment to the Environment Includes:
Small steps create a big impact! Each and every one of us has the power to make a change...
Think about it... If every household or office in America switched just one incandescent bulb for a single
Fluorescent, it would be equivalent of taking 7.5 million cars off the road.
It all starts with one person!
LET IT BE YOU!
Here are ten green ideas PSC lives by to make our place of business a little more "GREEN"
There are many simple, cost effective things you can do right now to reduce your workplaces impact on the planet.
Making your office environmentally friendly doesn't have to mean a lot of time and money. Follow our lead and it will provide a healthier and more productive space.
1. Make two sided printing and copying a standard practice. (Duplex printing)
2. Send office memos and daily updates via voice or email messaging or have a central bulletin board and one copy posted in a central location.
3. Purchase reusable items rather than disposal office items, such as refillable pens, erasable white boards and wall calendars.
4. Eliminate disposable by using permanent wares in the lunch and break rooms. Bring condiments from home such as sugar, salt and pepper, this will cut down on individual condiment packets.
5. Implement a large scale recycling program - paper, glass, plastic, cans/containers, carpeting, pallets, compost, electronics and more.
6. Reuse everything you can like - packaging, bubble wrap, cardboard boxes, Styrofoam, peanuts and blocks or try and find someone who can. Contact the plastic loose fill council for more information at 800-828-2214
7. Donate or exchange unwanted but usable items to schools, churches, hospitals, libraries, museums, nonprofit organizations and teacher resource organizations.
8. Enroll in a waste exchange program where your unwanted items can become another company’s resource.
9. Purchase products made from recycled materials. Office paper, folders, envelopes, pencils, pens, tissue, boxes, bags, furniture, carpet and recycling containers are just a few products that can be sourced from entirely recycled materials.
10. Install lighting controls, such as occupancy sensors, photocells or time clocks.
PSC is always looking for ways to protect our environment and have become more eco-conscious. Making environmentally friendly decisions shouldn't mean having to change your entire lifestyle. Instead, think of going green as giving a few daily habits a makeover, or in this case a "green-over." Start simple, and stick to small change that, when continued on a regular basis, can have a huge positive impact on the environment.
It can take less than a minute to do something green. Try some of these simple solutions in your office and at home to be on the path to a greener lifestyle.
• Say "no thanks" to ATM receipts, it would save a roll of paper so long it could circle the equator fifteen times
• Change light bulbs from traditional incandescent to compact fluorescent light bulbs. If we all did, it would reduce greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars
• Turn off the car instead of idling when waiting in a carpool lane for the kids at school. When a car idles for more than 30 seconds, it's actually using more gas, therefore putting more greenhouse gas pollution into the air then if it was turned off
• If every household replaced just one roll of paper towels (70 sheets) with 100% recycled ones, we could save 544,000 trees
